Environmental Responsibility Statement
Active Surplus has been on the forefront of the recycling industry since the first day it opened its doors back in 1962. Back then recycling was not a well known concept, to the general public, or our store founders. The idea of selling old machinery and suprlus merchandise wasn't new then, but as our culture has become a 'disposable', it is now unique in Toronto. As the decades passed, the idea of environmental responsibility has risen to a primary goal in our minds and practices.
Here's how we make a difference:
1. We buy direct from manufactures in bulk, saving packaging.
2. We will not buy products with wasteful packaging and our suppliers know it.
3. We recycle all our cardboard and paper packaging.
4. In one week for the entire store generates only 4 bags of garbage.
5. We buy and resell of cuts of wire, plastic and wood that would normally end up in the dump.
6. We have dedicated staff at our warehouse that sort's waste product for recycling.
7. All our bags plastic and paper are biodegradable and have been for years.
8. Most recently we have started accepting used batteries for recycling at our retail locations
